Peter Tasker is from St. Louis, Missouri. He wanted a qualification that would let him teach English anywhere in the world, so he came to Málaga to take the Trinity CertTESOL with us. Today he is part of the Hablandis team.
A place and a program
Peter was looking for two things, and he found both here. In his words: “A beautiful place, for starters, and secondly, a program that I think is really well designed.”
The Trinity CertTESOL is the initial qualification from Trinity College London for teaching English to speakers of other languages, and it is recognized internationally. The course combines input sessions with teaching practice: you teach real students and get feedback on every class.
A qualification that opens doors
Peter didn’t want a job in one place. He wanted to move: “I’m interested in traveling the world and spending long periods of time in different places. Accreditation is going to open doors for me.”
That is what the CertTESOL is for. Language schools around the world ask for it, and it shows that you have been trained and assessed teaching real classes, not just reading about teaching.
Your teaching, under the microscope
What struck Peter most was how closely his teaching was looked at: “The model that they use is really so effective. It’s broken down every aspect of my teaching. We brought it under the microscope and we’re trying to improve it.”
That is how the course works. You plan a lesson, you teach it, and then you and your tutor go through it together: what worked, what didn’t, and what to try next time. Over the weeks, those small adjustments add up.
And then, Málaga
The course is demanding, but it happens in Málaga, a few steps from the Mediterranean. “Just have a look at that, will you? This is a wonderful environment to be in,” says Peter. “And then the food of Málaga. I’ve been extremely pleased.”
