Initial training for ELE teachers: from zero to your first class

Have you always thought about teaching Spanish but don’t know where to start? This course is the direct bridge between your vocation and your first class. We provide you with the essential theory and, most importantly, real, tutored practical experience so that you develop the confidence and autonomy you need. Become an ELE teacher ready to enter the classroom successfully.

Training program

THEORETICAL PART: 20 HOURS

MONDAY
First session: Getting started. What is ELE?

Session 2: Teach the language to others! Do you express, do you understand, do you interact?

TUESDAY
First session: There are ways and ways of teaching: teaching methods.

Second session: I see grammar everywhere (I)

WEDNESDAY
First session: Professional opportunities in the world of ELE

Second session: I see grammar everywhere (II)

THURSDAY

First session: Activities with a lot of punch

Second session: One activity. A sequence. A theme. A book.

FRIDAY
First session: Fundamentals of teaching Spanish online

Session 2: Didactic sequence and lesson planning

PRACTICAL PART: 20 HOURS

At the end of the theoretical part, the participant is assigned an internship tutor who will guide and supervise him/her at all times.

The participant must complete the 20 hours distributed as follows:

  • Eight 55-minute sessions (7.30 hours) of classroom observation.
  • 8 hours of class preparation.
  • 1 hour of tutoring.
  • Four 55-minute sessions (4 hours) of tutoring.

The four tutoring sessions are flexible and will depend on the availability of the participant and his/her tutor.

No. The teaching of Spanish as a foreign language in Spain is part of non-regulated education, so access to the labor market is not limited by prior academic training.

As a center accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, we issue a certificate of attendance and course completion with the number of hours completed and the contents worked on. Upon request, we can also issue a course performance report.

The Spanish language teaching industry is dynamic and there is usually quite a demand for teachers. That said, we can only speak for ourselves, La Playa Escuela de Español. We offer a job bank that we make use of quite frequently. So much so, that currently 40% of our team of Spanish teachers are excellent teachers who did the Initial Training course with us. They started with us, and they are still here. And we are very proud of them.

No. Speaking or having knowledge of other languages can certainly help you in your classes, but it is not essential. Spanish classes are taught in Spanish, with a communicative approach to teaching.
